Chapter 27-Part 2

So its been some time since the trial and Tom was convicted but the whole town knew who really did it. This left Bob with no dignity if he had any at all, and no believability. He swore to Atticus he would get him. Then later Judge Taylor heard scratching at his screen door and went outside to see Bob running off. In October Bob began following Helen to work threatening her and Link threatens to have Bob arrested if he doesn't leave her alone.

Last night we had a Halloween contest and party at the school. Jem had to take me because Atticus and Aunt Alexandra were too tired to come. A funny thing had happened though, some kids had taken two sisters furniture and hid it in the basement as a joke. The sisters blamed it on immigrants and later the police found the furniture.

After Mr.Gilmer viciously tore Tom apart, Dill began to cry so I took him outside. We ran into Dolphus Raymond. He offered Dill a drink from his paper sack which we all believed to be alcohol. Dill quickly told me it was Coca-Cola and I question Mr.Raymond on this. He said that people needed a reason for things and it would be easier to give them one than have them make one up.

When we came back Atticus was just finishing up his statement. He then proceeded towards the jury and states that the prosecution has produced no medical evidence of the crime and has showed only the testimony of two witnesses. He also mentioned the physical evidence suggests that Bob Ewell, not Tom, beat Mayella..

Chapter 19-Part 2

During the court room today Tom was beginning to be prosecuted. It was all very basic questions and answers until he was asked about the trip. He said that he took the same road every day and helped Mayella whenever he got the chance. Which made Link Deas, Toms employer, shout about him not misbehaving after 8 years of work. Judge Taylor quickly expelled him.

After that Mr.Gilmer started to examine Tom. He points out Tom was arrested before for disorderly conduct. He also got Tom to admit that even with on good hand he has the strength to throw a girl on the ground and choke her. After Mr.Gilmer was done with the initial questions he asked Tom why he was helping Mayella and if he expected any favors from her. Tom replied that he felt sorry for her and that left most of the people in the courtroom in shock.

So the trial began and lots of people were showing up to see the outcome. When we started going we passed Miss Maudie and she didn't seem like she was going. We asked her why and she said it was like going to a Roman Carnival. I didn't get the reference but we continued on our way. In order to avoid Atticus we waited for everyone to enter, which didn't leave any seats left. Reverend Sykes was able to offer us seats in the colored section though, we didn't mind.

The trial began and Judge Taylor was the one who started the whole thing. He's not a very strict man when it came to the formal. He ran it in a very informal fashion and seemed bored more or less of the time. I swore at one point he was going to fall asleep.

Chapter 12-Part 2

So Jem turned twelve the other day and he doesn't seem to want to hang out as much. When we were kids he wanted to hangout everyday and play with me and occasionally Dill. Now he doesn't want to play at all. He says he is maturing and that he cant be seen with his younger sister. Its not good for him with his friends to be playing with me I guess because of the age difference.

Another fun thing happened today. Calpurnia decided to bring us to her church, which is mostly for negro's. There was one lady there though that didn't think it was right to bring white children there. All of the other people there were nice though and Reverend Sykes said it was because Atticus was defending Tom as he would defend a white man.

Chapter 10-Scout

Sometimes I get embarrassed of Daddy. Not because of what he dies or who he is but his age. Hes a lot older than the other fathers in our town. Also he doesn't do what most of the other fathers do. Like hunting or farming or fishing, he just stays at home and reads.
Today Atticus did something incredible. Today though there was a rabid dog walking towards the Finch's house. So my dad got his gun and was quite far away. He took a quick aim and shot the dog once. The dog fell down and died right there, no need for another bullet. I don't think any of the other dads could be as good a shot.

Chapter 9-Scout

Today during school I almost beat a kid up for making fun of my dad. Atticus has recently taken a case for a black person. Now everyone in town has gone against him and are making fun of him. Daddy says that we should stand up for the innocent though. So if he thinks the colored man is innocent than so do I.

Today we went to visit aunt Alexandra. When we got there I had the pleasure of meeting Francis. Also while putting up with him I'm dealing with aunt Alexandra who is yelling at me for not dressing like a proper woman. Then Francis was making fun of Dill and called Atticus a "N***** Lover." after that I couldnt hold myself back. I started beating the crap out of him, and he told Alexandra and her husband and they smacked me.
